The fifth Fulton In Residence tour took place from July 27- August 3, 2025
in Saint-Lizier, France.

FIR's 2025 tour focused on culture, history, and inspiration. We partnered with the city of Saint-Lizier to present two concerts in the Cathédrale Saint Lizier to benefit Bel Horizon, a local organization supporting cancer research.

FIR students had the unique opportunity to play in a European cathedral dating back to the 11th century. Its architecture required them to adapt their technique and musicality to fit the acoustical properties of the space. Original frescos highlighted the cathedral's age - Bach would not be born until over 500 years later!

But the cathedral didn't house the oldest art visited during this tour. On the day off between concerts, students and faculty took a trip to visit the cave at Niaux, which contains prehistoric art that has been dated to over 16,000 years ago! They saw pictures of animals like horses, bison, and ibex as well as geometric symbols - plus some "contemporary" tags from the 1600s.

Food was also a large part of the cultural experience. Over the course of the week, FIR members sampled local produce from the market as well as regional products such as cheeses, croustades, and sausages. At local restaurants, they tried many traditional dishes, from onion soup to cassoulet to duck confit. A culinary highlight was a special dinner of French haut cuisine at the bishop's palace overlooking the town of Saint-Lizier.

Stay tuned for where Fulton In Residence
will travel next!
